Hey salaams, Mohammad here.

Used to write under the name Momekh. Now Momekh is a consultancy and coaching business. That’s at momekh.com.

That bit possibly was the obvious part.

But what is this Server boy thingy majiggy?

This is my attempt at learning some sysadmin so I can manage servers for effectively.

Why? So I can save money. Lots of it actually.

If you can learn sysadmin, you can manage a VPS that costs 10 times less. Yes, 10 times. That’s not an exaggeration. That’s actually pretty exact.

Previous server: US$ 68 / month.

New server: US $ 6 / month.

Previous server was slightly less specked than the new one, but costed me 10 times more. Why? Because I didn’t know sysadmin.

SysAdmin is System Administration, mostly of a server. At least in this context.

Why am I comfortable now with learning and doing dangerous-sounding stuff like SSH’ing into the server, running CLI commands that don’t ask, “are you sure, this will absolutely destroy all that you’ve built”. None of that. That’s dangerous, right?

So why now?

Or rather, how come now you can, whereas previously you couldnt?

Well, about that…

AI Shay Eye

It’s about them AI’s.

Seriously, when it comes down to it, the reason I was paying almost 70 bucks a month to the previous server host (I talk about who they are and all that here) was because of their absolutely fantastic support.

Live chat saved me a ton.

Now I can have that chat with AI. I use AI Studio for that, with ChatGPT being there for a second opinion. But for all code-related, and subsequently sysadmin related stuff, it’s Google’s AI Studio.

So my AI chat has saved 60 bucks a month, Alhumdulillah.

I have moved the server, and more about that here.
