The Professional Adventurer

I’ve repeated this story before but it doesn’t matter, I can tell it again: About 10 or 12 years ago, I saw a documentary on Nat Geo. It was on the Harrier fighter jet (you know, the one that can do stationary take offs and landings).

While interviewing the pilots of this prestigious machine, they asked how does it feel to fly such a complicated piece of equipment. And the pilot said something like, “I can’t believe they are paying me to fly this. I’d pay to fly this.”

That’s how I want to live my life. Period.

I want my work to be that interesting to me!

The ProHobbyist has been a central theme of how I try to live my life. I am very, very interested in the overlap between work and play. I believe that most people we read about – the doers, the leaders, the innovators – these people did not have a clear boundary between work and play. Their leisure was their work, their work was their leisure.

A Pakistani’s Life

By God’s Ultimate Grace, I realize that I’m living a life I just can not give up. It’s that interesting. Alhumdulillah.

I am from Lahore, Pakistan. We have load shedding for 10 to 16 hours a day. Most people will be shocked: how can you work in such a hopeless environment!?

But still we work. I am sitting here, writing this in the glow of my laptop screen. The lights just went off again. InshAllah, it doesn’t matter. Still we work.
